We tendered on a small portion of works here that grew into one of our biggest contracts ever, stretching to almost a year of construction. Albany bakery in Sacks Circle belongs to Tiger brands and embarked on a construction project of R350M to double the dough mixing from 6000-12000 loaves per hour with the latest energy efficiency in production and bagging.
The project was not executed in the traditional structure of a main contractor and several nominated sub-contractors. The procurement strategy was to appoint an architect and principle agent appointing individual contractors in many disciplines.
This resulted in an extremely efficient way of construction as the principle agent and client’s development officer managed the project hands-on and building a team with the consultants and contractors that managed change-management and cost control on a daily basis.
Being part of this successful project was an honour and seeing the professionals at work, served as a learning curve for our team under Odendaal. A project like this speaks to the passion we have for construction and the reward of experiencing teamwork that can really overcome construction challenges and time constraints.
